Fork inevitable for hula project?

I was trying to figure out what will come of the promising young hula project after it tragically caught the sharp end of the Novell axe (just before Novell’s famed Microsoft partnership, conveniently), and it looks inevitable it’s going to get forked. It probably needs a fork, but the name I’ve seen being bounced around just doesn’t carry the same cache as the pleasant, tropical hula. If I could, I’d suggest the new project keep that cheeky Hawaiin flavor for hula’s name. Sure, you have to drop the trademark hula, but a lot of the very polished assets can stay with the project, and the clean, playful look and feel is a strong plus for the project — why not keep as much of it as possible?

In my eyes, the perfect name for hula all along would have been ‘the aloha project’ — aloha meaning hello and goodbye in Hawaiin. It’s ideal for mail and calendaring. Plus, that leaves the door open for ‘the mahalo project’ (thank you and you’re welcome), which fit nicely as the name for the inevitable contacts/organization/mini-crm that will eventually have to be developed to complement ‘aloha’. What do you think?
