The Hardy beta rocks my world…

So the latest Ubuntu release, Hardy Heron, is rapidly approaching. I dropped the beta on my laptop a few days back, and Holy Shit am I loving life. I’ll be completely whiping my Gutsy partition as soon as I get the chance!

I’m reading a lot of chatter about people being none too pleased that Hardy’s going to ship with Firefox 3 beta. The difference between Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 is night and freakin’ day — it’s like a different browser! I’d stopped using Firefox 2 in Gutsy completely, except for the occasional debug session in Firebug — I would actually prefer to RDP into my Windows desktop at work just to use the Firefox 3 beta just to keep more than a few tabs open at a time.

Finally, all is right with the world. Other than the browser bump, though, I can’t quite put my finger on what it is about Hardy I’m loving so much. It’s fixed a few quirks I couldn’t squash in Gutsy, like suspend (hibernate seems to almost work too — it doesn’t freeze up anymore). The visual refresh is beautiful — I’ve already received several compliments on the wallpaper — and really, typically, who even notices the wallpaper?!

Overall, it just feels nicer. Like they say, when you do things right

Underneath this flabby exterior lies an enormous lack of character…
