F**k it…
I hadn’t yet heard the saga of Shareaza, the yet-another-p2p-app that has been hijacked by a pretty scammy bunch. There are even rumors a’swirlin’ in the echosphere that Discordia Ltd. is really just a shell for the MAFIAA, evidenced by the fact that they’re a US firm and no US firm could survive for long in the current legal climate of p2p without big entertainment behind them.
As to what to do about Shareaza — the solution is simple: f**k it. Fuck it dude, fork it and rebrand. It shouldn’t be hard if they have a decent community, and it would be a very streisand way to build that community further. Make a stink about your plight, do a name/logo competition and drum up as much chatter as possible…
It seems to be working for dataportability.org, who just got a C&D from — of all people, Red Hat — regarding the similarities between dataportability.org’s logo and fedora’s (for what it’s worth, the only similarity is the symbol for infinity!). This could be quite a mess for the burgeoning group, but they decided it would be more advantageous to turn this into a positive rather than waste resources pissing in the wind.
