Seen on Slash…

I’m sitting in a class about blogs, so I figure it’s about time I put something up here. Turns out the average time between updates on established blogs is two to five days…

Time between my substantive posts usually is usually measured in months. I don’t know how people do it.

The prof also made the assertion that reading the comments is a waste of time. I hear this a lot: most comments are drivel; a vast wasteland with little substance. Perhaps this is true, but shrugging the problem off as intractable seems ludicrous. Sure, on most blogs, all comments are treated equal — anything that isn’t blatant spam at least. Displayed chronologically, structurally assigning more importance to the first post than the fifth. Of course, this problem has been solved, by many people in many different ways. It’s about time someone solves it once and for all. Not me, but you know…someone…

In any event, for proof and posterity, I may as well start posting some of the high-quality gems I find. Seen on Slashdot has been doing something similar for a while, but most of their posts are humor-related. The best comments on Slashdot, for instance, are often the brilliant libertarian ramblings of low-uid madmen. Sure, the in-jokes are pretty clever, but the ranting and raving is top notch. So in the interest of compelling myself to contribute more regularly, I’ll start copying and pasting the cleverest crap around and stick it under the heading “As Seen On…”
