From the fabricated-services department…

In case anyone had any doubt that AT&T would find a way to fuck up the Apple Experience™

For starters, although I signed up for what iTunes told me was a $60 plan (450 minutes, unlimited Internet), the bill says I have a $40 voice plan and a $20 Internet plan, and lists them on separate pages.

The first bill, believe it or not, comes to $150. It’s filled with unexplained services and features that were never mentioned during the signup process, like MEDIA MAX, EXPD M2M, VOICE PRIVACY, and AT&T DIRECT BILL.

Well, at least they explicitly tell you to go fuck yourself right up front. And then they give you the play-by-play…

All of that fits on three dense pages. But then–get this–I get SIX PAGES of listings of data tidbits that the iPhone has downloaded in the form of email and Web pages–KILOBYTE BY KILOBYTE!

Que sera, sera. Hopefully Jobs will put an end to this madness (and stick it to AT&T) — just release an unlocked iPDA already!

Dean, this is exactly why I’m waiting on buying the iphone….I’m waiting for the next version upgrade. I’ve been told iphone 1.1 upgrade will eliminate most of these “subscription” bugs :)

Justin, where’d you hear such insanity? I hope you’re right, but I’m not getting my hopes up…
